Sunsation Powerboats launches its new 2018 40CCX . After two years in development by the Sunsation design and engineering teams, what began as a 39 foot version of its popular Center Console Extreme line, has now evolved into a 40 foot state-of-the-art luxury performance center console, unmatched in its class.
Sunsation Powerboats of Algonac, Michigan recently delivered another 34CCX west of the Mississippi to a customer at Lake Powell, Arizona. The 254 square mile reservoir, straddling the Arizona-Utah border has long been popular territory for western built catamaran deck boats and open bowriders. “I’m a bit of a boat nut,” says new owner, […]
Wayne & Joe, You have given me and my family a product that will enrich our time together. I just turned 60 years old and this will be my last boat, because it meets all of my needs. You and your team do more than design and build boats…you help to build experiences and memories […]
Sunsation Boats of Algonac, Michigan, welcomes their newest dealer into the Sunsation family, Davis Watersports, of Richmond, Virginia. For more than 40 years, family owned Davis Auto Sales has specialized in providing quality new and pre-owned vehicles to their neighbors in the tight-knit community of Chesterfield County, Virginia.
Previously Poker Runs America and Sunsation (www.sunsationboats.com) had worked together on a Sunsation 32’ Performance Boat to promote poker run attendance for smaller performance boats. “It got Sunsation a lot of exposure,” said Joe Schaldenbrand, Vice President at Sunsation. “I liked the way that all went. Then we started talking about doing a center console.”
The initial discussions took place between Bill and Todd Taylor (Poker Runs America Vice President of Sales) and Schaldenbrand at the 2014 Miami International Boat Show. Mercury Racing (www.mercuryracing.com) agreed to join the cooperative effort by supplying the motors and the plan for the new Poker Runs America Safety Boat was set in
At 32’ long with a 9’ beam and a weight of 7,000 pounds, the 32 CCX is a good size for the assignment. The twin-stepped bottom was designed with well-known performance boat consultant Tres Martin, who owns the Tres Martin Performance Boat School (performanceboatschool.com) and it features the proprietary SS Taper Ventilation Technology.
The boat should run close to 80 mph once it’s dialed in, said Schaldenbrand. The 32 CCX is designed to accommodate a variety of recreational activities and is big enough to be able to handle the confused seas that can come with a poker run, but is also small enough that it can be easily towed to the various events around the country. The boat comes with trim tabs, six pop-up cleats, a cabin and a private head with a pumpout toilet. The cabin measures 8’ fore to aft, by 4’6” wide by 6’2” headroom.

Capt. Dave Singletary has been fishing the Gulf of Mexico since his childhood. He has been professionally involved in the fishing and hunting industry for more than 20 years. In 1995 he founded the Dixie Sportsman’s Hunting Lodge. The largest African Game Preserve in the southeastern United States and the first commercial outdoor operation to offer hunting for handicapped and terminally ill children.
Today, he owns and operates Rock’n Reef Sportfishing Charters, located just off the causeway in Dunedin, Florida. Dave contributes the success of his charter business to his life-long knowledge of the location and habits of the many species of game fish found in the Gulf of Mexico.
His boat of choice is a Sunsation 34CCX equipped with triple 300HP Verados. “Depending on the season, we sometimes have to go offshore up to 100 miles to where the fish are.” says Dave. ” More time should be spent fishing rather than driving. The boat cruises at 50 mph with a top speed of 75. We are the one fastest fishing boats in the Gulf!”
While Sunsation’s CCX center consoles are built primarily for the high-performance and luxury center console enthusiast, it easily functions as a fishing machine. “The layout of the boat is perfect for several people fishing simultaneously.” Dave continues, “I bought the demo on display at the 2015 Miami Boat Show from Mindi Doller. I’ve known Mindi and her team at Doller Offshore in Hollywood, Florida for many years and took her suggestion to look at the Sunsation. I was impressed after the first few minutes of the test ride.
To make the boat fully functional for a commercial charter service, I rigged it with an 8 tube rocket launcher, installed rod holders in the gunnels and easily modified two of the larger under deck storage compartments into fish lockers and converted one of the built in coolers into a functioning live well with macerator.”
